Frequently Asked Questions

How does therapy start?
After you have contacted me we will find a mutually agreed day and time to have an initial session. On Wednesdays I am based in in Killester, Dublin 3- Just beside Killester DART Station. On other days, I can also provide online sessions on Zoom, FaceTime or Skype. In this session we will both have the opportunity to see if we can work together and to discuss your reason for coming to therapy. This will also help me to assess if I am an appropriate therapist for you to be seeing given the nature of the issue you bring.

How will we agree to work?
Before the work starts with clients I always make sure that we have discussed and agreed on how we will work together. I also like to make sure that I have a clear understanding of what has bought you to therapy and what you hope for in coming to therapy.

What happens after that?
If we both agree to work together we will normally have up to 6 weekly sessions and prior to having a review. This will be an opportunity for us both to talk about how the work is going and to discuss what more may or may not be needed.

How often will I need to come to therapy?
Usually I see clients once a week for 50 minutes. We will agree on a day and time for our weekly session. However there may be times when it's clinically appropriate to have sessions more or less frequently. Regularity and continuity are two important factors in therapy. I work with clients on a short-term basis, focusing on a particular area, as well as long-term where in-depth psychotherapeutic work is required. I also occasionally offer a small number of intensive EMDR sessions (up to 6 hours) at weekends, What is best for you is something that can be discussed in our initial meeting.

Do you abide by a Code of Ethics?
I abide by and work to the Code of Ethics of the following associations: Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP), the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), EMDR Association UK, EMDR Association All Ireland, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT).
